What's new in Acronis True Image New Generation?

Ransomware protection—Ransomware is malicious software that encrypts your files or blocks access to an entire system, and then demands ransom for restoring access to your data. Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation monitors processes running on your computer by using the real-time mode. When it detects a third-party process that tries to encrypt your files, it informs you about it, and asks if you want to allow the process to modify your files or block the process. In case your files still were encrypted, Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation will suggest recovering them from previously created file copies.

Proving file authenticity with Blockchain technology—Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation uses the Blockchain technology to provide top-level security for your backed-up files. This technology gives you the guarantee that your files have not been modified by fraudulent software, and when it is time to recover, you recover data from exactly the same file that was backed up.

Mobile and Facebook backup encryption—Before you create a backup, you can turn on the backup encryption option and protect the backup by using a password.

Browsing content of local mobile backups—When you have a backup of your mobile data on a computer, you can browse the backup content, including photos and videos. The access to the files is read-only, so if you need to modify the files, you first need to copy them to a different folder.

What's new in Acronis True Image 2017?
  • Local archiving—When you archive your old, large, or rarely used files, Acronis Cloud is not the only possible destination. You can also select local storage, including NAS, an external hard drive, or a USB flash drive. Your local archives are placed into Acronis Archive, which can be accessed in File Explorer under Favorites, along with your cloud archive.
  • Archive encryption—To protect the archived data from unauthorized access, you can encrypt the archive with industry-standard AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) cryptographic algorithm with a 256-bit long key.
  • File search in backups—When you recover your data, you can use search to easily find a specific file or folder in the selected backup. You can type the full file name or type a partial file name and use common wildcard characters (* and ?).
  • Auto-detection of NAS devices—If you use NAS in your home network, Acronis True Image will detect it and suggest backing up to this device. All NAS devices are detected correctly even without Bonjour software installed on your computer.
  • Mobile device backup to local storage—If you have an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet, you can protect your mobile data, such as photos, video files, contacts, and calendars. In addition to Acronis Cloud, you can now store your mobile backups in local storage on your computer. For this operation, you need to have Acronis True Image installed on your computer and the Acronis True Image mobile app installed on your mobile device.
  • Improved user interface—Due to popular customer requests, the product interface was improved and simplified. This includes sorting backups in the list, adaptation for NAS devices to use as a backup destination, backup encryption indication, and other items.
  • Default sync removal—You can delete the default sync, as any other ordinary sync. It will not be recreated automatically.
  • Automatic backup destination recognition—When Windows assigns a different drive letter to the device that you use as a backup destination, the backup settings will not be broken. Acronis True Image recognizes the device and continues the backup without errors.

January 19, 2017 – Acronis, a global leader in hybrid-cloud data protection and storage, today announced Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation with Acronis Active Protection — active protection against ransomware attacks on user data, Acronis Notary — blockchain-based data certification and verification capabilities — and Acronis ASign — the most consumer-friendly electronic document signing service.

Acronis True Image is the first and only backup solution in the market that introduces Active Protection technology to detect and prevent ransomware attacks in real-time, automatically recover all data from the backup, self-protect backups and the backup application.

According to the FBI, damages from ransomware exceeded $1 billion in 2016 and are growing at an alarming rate, affecting thousands of people every day. This year, cyber-attacks will increasingly threaten data on every personal computer and Acronis delivers the ultimate protection for user data.

Acronis True Image is the fastest and most complete personal backup solution, outperforming the closest competition by more than two times and protecting data on Windows and Mac computers, iOS and Android mobile devices, and Facebook social network accounts. Acronis True Image delivers ultimate data protection for personal and family data using AES 256 encryption and stores it in multiple destinations, including external drives, NAS devices, network shares, and the secure Acronis Cloud.

Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation is the most secure backup on the market due to new unique data protection capabilities:

  • Acronis Active Protection for real-time active protection against ransomware. Acronis Active Protection identifies unusual activity on computers and prevents malicious applications from damaging user data, backups, and backup software. Cutting-edge behavioral heuristics detect and prevent new and known ransomware attacks, making the backup more secure, and reducing a number of times data need to be restored from the backup.
  • Acronis Notary for Blockchain-based data authentication. Acronis Notary offers certification of the content of any file and verification of content modifications against the original version. Unique, “digital file fingerprints” are stored in a distributed, immutable database based on blockchain technology. Blockchain allows users to verify the authenticity of the information at any time. This is especially important for valuable documents such as contracts, medical records, and financial documents.
  • Acronis ASign for blockchain-based document certification. Acronis ASign allows multiple parties to execute and certify a document with a secure and publicly auditable digital signature. Users can protect their backed-up documents, which are verified with Acronis Notary and electronically signed – all within the same reliable backup solution.

Acronis True Image 2017 New Generation Keyboard Case

Eugene Kaspersky, chairman and CEO of Kaspersky Lab, said: “The world is facing a rising and increasingly dangerous tide of ransomware affecting individuals and businesses alike. Of course, ideally you should never pay criminals if your data is encrypted by ransomware; that’s all very well in theory, but when it’s your family photos or business documents encrypted, the idealism can swiftly go out the window. There are many measures that can be taken to avoid the damage from ransomware, but a high-end Internet security suite and a reliable backup disconnected from the system is still essential to ensure business continuity if the worst does still happen. And I welcome Acronis’s introduction of backup suited to this trend.”
